Really, the Mortal Instruments was only the beginning. Lady Midnightexplores the fall out and what happens when people let old prejudices cloud their judgement. Tensions between Downworlders and Shadowhunters are at an all-time high, especially after the Seelie Queen sided with Sebastian.

In addition to seeing our beloved characters five years later, we get to see what has happened to the Shadowhunter world in the wake of the Dark War. The Shadowhunter World after the Dark War Have you wondered what our favorite characters from Mortal Instruments and Infernal Devices have been up to since their books ended? Did the couple you shipped above everyone else stay together? Are they getting married? Well, one of the reasons why Lady Midnightis such a fun read is because we get to find out! The book starts five years after the end of City of Heavenly Fire, so get ready to see cameos of your favorite characters!Ĥ. Is there a reason why romantic love between Parabatai is forbidden? Or is it just an arbitrary law that was always meant to be broken? This trope couldn’t be more up my alley and Lady Midnight does not disappoint. Emma and Julian are best friends and Parabatai, but the truth of their feelings for one another is not just swoon-worthy, it’s potentially dangerous.

There’s just something about the will-they-won’t-they thing that creates so much delicious tension. I’m a sucker for a forbidden love story and no one does it better than Cassandra Clare. I promise everything will make sense, and chances are you’ll get so hooked on the world you’ll want to go back and read the others later anyway. Don’t worry! This might be a companion series, but you can start with Lady Midnight. If you enjoy being swept up into other worlds full of danger, love, and adventure, look no further than Lady Midnight! But maybe you haven’t read the Mortal Instruments or the Infernal Devices and you haven’t started Lady Midnight because you haven’t gotten to those stories yet. At this point, I trust Cassandra Clare to deliver stories I will love and Lady Midnightis no exception. Reading Lady Midnight, I felt the familiar joy I’ve always felt picking up a Shadowhunter book. But that is so NOT the case with the Shadowhunter books.

You would think after ten books, the excitement for the newest installment would start to get old. I started reading Cassandra Clare’s books when I was in middle school. Instead, I’ve put together six top reasons why you should read Lady Midnight ASAP (but if you’d like some more, ask me in the comments)! 1. I could ramble on and on about all the reasons you should pick up this book right now, but I don’t know if they’d let me write more posts for Riveted after that.

If you haven’t read Lady Midnightyet, you should seriously reconsider your life choices because it is so, so amazing.
